Last week, three of our Arts Ambassadors, attended a special 2 day workshop with Mrs Hadley at Exeter University. The course was for children with a particular talent for art and was great fun! The main aim of the workshop was to create a sea creature sculpture using willow and tissue paper.
In preparation for designing and making the sculpture, the children began by sketching REAL fish! (This was a rather smelly part of the course!) Firstly using pencils and then onto chalk and charcoal.
Next the children explored number of the Swiss artist Paul Klee's paintings. Paul Klee (1879–1940) was an abstract artist known for his highly individual style, which was influenced by many different art movements, including Expressionism, Cubism and Surrealism. During the workshop the children looked in particular at this Paul Klee painting which is called 'The Goldfish'
After this the children designed their sculpture and made a Maquette (a mini practise sculpture) using wire and Modroc.
On the second day the children were ready to start making their final sculptures.
Once they were finished, the children put on an exhibition of their wonderful artwork.
Then we just had to fit everything into Mrs Hadley's teeny, tiny car so we could get back to school!!
The sculptures are now on display in our foyer if you would like to see them for yourself! Well done children, you were brilliant ambassadors for our school and it was a pleasure to spend time with you!
Thats me!!!
