Lockdown Art Challenge - How Small Can You Draw?!

Did you know that last week it was Children's Mental Health Week?

Mental health means what your mood is like and how you feel.

Sometimes you might feel happy and positive but other times you might feel sad. You might also feel cross, grumpy, or worried.

Everything is strange at the moment because of Covid 19 and lots of people are finding themselves feeling a bit sad, worried or cross.

Art can be a good way to focus on something for a little while and practice being mindful so you are living in that moment and not worrying about anything else. This can help you feel more relaxed, positive and happy!

Here is an art activity that might allow you to be in the moment and practice being mindful. Perhaps you could listen to some calming music while you draw?

Repeat this exercise over a few days, each time choosing a different “small” object, and you’ll soon see how the marks you make change and improve.

So let’s start small and take it one tiny drawing at a time!

 You Will Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Collection of small objects (see below for example)

Your challenge is to draw a collection of tiny objects. Things which are roughly the size of a five pence piece, like small shells, pebbles, leaves, beads, screws.

Top Tips!

Keep looking at the object as well as your drawing. Ideally you should look at the object for a few seconds, then your drawing for a few seconds, then the object, then the drawing.

There will be no mistakes and you can’t really go wrong. You are just making quick sketches. Each sketch should only take a couple of minutes.

Make as many sketches as you like, on as many sheets as you can.

Share your favourite sheet of small drawings by sending them into the school office admin@rydonprimary.org.uk

Enjoy drawing small art fans!
