Art Week Year Four - Emily Powell Mural

It was Art Week at Rydon last week and there was some awesome art going on across the school!

Art week in Year 4 has focussed on ‘success’.  We were lucky enough to have a ‘real-live’ artist to work with, Emily Powell.

Before we began, Emily spoke to the children via a video link and, between them, they outlined a vision for our work.  We have been studying The Rainforest, Habitats and Henri Rousseau which perfectly suited our remit.

Emily set the children a challenge of experimenting with paint, designing plants and leaves, animals of the rainforest… or in fact animals of any kind and detail for those animals.  She told the children that Art is personal so whatever they produced, they COULD NOT GET THEIR PAINTINGS WRONG, it is their work.  This gave the children confidence to express themselves in a positive fashion.  Colour, shape and size were unlimited.

Following their designs, Emily will be working with our children to create a wall mural outside our classrooms. Watch this space for pictures of the mural itself!  In the meantime here is some of the children's brilliant preparatory work.
