Kandinsky Circles - Colour Mixing - Year 1

Year 1 children have been inspired by the artist Wassily Kandinksy to create some beautiful circle paintings.

Here is Wassily Kandinsky.

Kandinksy was an artist who used colours and shapes to represent feelings and emotions. He believed that colours, lines and shapes affect our feelings and emotions in the same way that music can. You know how a slow sad song makes you feel down and a pop song with a happy, fast beat makes you want to dance? Well Kandinsky believed that creating a painting is like composing music.

Does this Kandinsky painting make you think of music?

Here is a famous Kandinsky painting, a colour study called 'Squares with Concentric circles' that was painted in 1913.

The children in Year 1 used the primary colours to mix their own secondary colours and created their own concentric circle paintings.
