We made fruit smoothies in Year 2 last week. Before we chopped up the ingredients we had a go at drawing them! The results are some super bright and cheerful pastel drawings.

Year 5 Tudor Portraits

Year 5 are learning about the Tudors this term. They have looked at Tudor portraits and studied the style of clothing that Tudor Royalty wore in preparation for creating a Tudor style self portrait. Henry VIII from the circle of Hans Holbein, c.1535-40 Queen Elizabeth I by Sir William Seger c.1585 Here is a great link to a Tudor artist web quest from the National Gallery . An Elephant in the Garden - Year 5

Towards the end of last term we were invited by DAISI take part in an exciting visual arts and creative writing exhibition inspired by Michael Morpurgo’s An Elephant in the Garden . The project has been developed in partnership with Daisi, the University of Exeter’s Graduate School of Education department and the Exeter Northcott Theatre. We jumped at the chance, and Miss Calder attended a training session in preparation for the project. She learned how to make a 'Crankie' also known as a 'Moving Panorama', a way of telling a story through pictures. Miss Calder felt this would be excellent way for the children in Year 5 to engage with the story of 'An Elephant in the Garden' . So, this week professional Daisi artist Joanna Hruby came in to work with Miss Calder's Year 5 class, for 2 days, The children produced some beautifully detailed and careful drawings, telling the story. These they painted using both watercolour paints ...

Wire Animals.....

Recently, Mrs Durrant came to work with 2HT to help them make some sculptures from wire. The children learned about Alexander Calder an American sculptor who is best known for producing wire figures and sculptures that hang or balance and can move slightly, also know as mobiles. The sculptures will be on display at Totnes show on Sunday 28th July so why not pop over and have a look at them!
