Year Two - Henri Matisse - Drawing with Scissors

In Year Two we are learning about a well known artist called Henri Matisse who was born in France in  December 1869.    Matisse started drawing and painting as a child before becoming a painter when he was an adult.  As he got older Matisse started making art by cutting out shapes from colourful pieces of paper.  His pictures are great as they are so bright, bold and cheerful!

We really enjoyed looking at the pictures of his work and thinking of questions we would like to find the answer to during the topic.  Then we had a go at drawing some of his pictures ourselves.

Here is a link to an introduction to Henri Matisse's 'cut out' pictures written by artist Laurence Anholt.
