Lockdown Art Challenge - Make a Junk Sculpture!

Hello Everyone!

Did you know that some artists make sculptures from things that would otherwise be thrown away? Here are some sculptures made from junk...

Look carefully at the sculptures... What objects and materials can you see?

Maybe you can try to make a junk sculpture of your own?

1. Find some recycled rubbish

Have a look in the recycling bin for items you could use for your sculpture. Try to find a mix of shapes, sizes and colours. (you will need a grown up to help with this)

Some ideas of things to look for:

  • Cardboard boxes - big and small
  • Lids
  • Used wrapping / tissue paper
  • Empty plastic bottles
  • Fabric scraps
  • Cardboard tubes
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Sweetie wrappers

2. You may also need

You will also need to find things that you can use to stick together the different parts of your sculpture, and things to decorate it with. If you can recycle or use scraps, then your sculpture will be even more sustainable.

• Coloured paper and tissue paper

• Fabric scraps

• Poster or water soluble paint

• PVA glue or glue-stick

• Different coloured tape, and masking tape

• Scissors

• Coloured string

3. Make your Sculpture!

You might want to cut/ tear or squash your recycled rubbish so that it changes size or shape. Decide whether you want your sculpture to stand, lie or hang. Do you want your sculpture to be abstract like the one below or like something from real life?

Remember that your sculpture needs to look interesting from

different angles (from the front, back, sides, above and maybe even below).

What decoration will you add?

Where will you display your finished sculpture?

The most important thing is to have fun making it!

Remember to share your sculpture with us via Seesaw or by emailing a picture of your creation to the school office admin@rydonprimary.org.uk
